Lead Axle Development Engineer - £34/hr (Inside IR35) - Warwickshire (hybrid potential) - 10 Months (maternity cover)

Duties:
Reporting to the Axle Function & Integration Chapter Leader, this role requires an individual to lead the delivery of the design of the suspension/axle concept and associated CAD geometry to meet the agreed timing for multiple nameplates off a platform.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of the Axle CAD concept and integration of corner modules and axle links into subframes and rest of vehicle for all vehicles across a platform
- Support of Axle Integration Engineers, organising workload to complete programme deliverables. Provide daily support with technical direction, methods and processes
- Work together to plan out tasks, training and career development experiences where appropriate
- Create suspension layout studies and check packaging including consideration of kinematics, dynamic envelopes (e.g. wheel envelope), compliances, tuning and component variability
- Generate suspension hard point datasheets for release, plus selected other chassis geometry datasheets (e.g. anti-roll bar routing) and cascade these to all relevant areas of the business
- Generate and complete the DVP for suspension assemblies for the requirements that depend on CAD as the validation tool (for example clearance checks)
- Develop new processes and techniques to improve the Axle design process, in order to meet the timing requirements of current and future programmes

Skills:
Essential:
- Mechanical Engineering based degree (MEng, BEng, MSc or BSc) or equivalent experience
- Experienced user of Catia v6 (Dassault Systems 3DEXPERIENCE) with a working knowledge of kinematics
- Knowledge of suspension design fundamentals, suspension packaging & functional requirements
- High levels of personal organisation, driven, self-motivated and able to deliver with minimum supervision
- Excellent problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills, with strong influencing and engagement skills

The Opportunity
The role is the principal virtual discrete event simulation engineer for Manufacturing Engineering and will be responsible for leading vehicle or system programmes Discrete Event Simulation function, modelling the process flow from concept thru to the delivery phase to JOB1 + 90 days.

- DES model achieves JPH target as per system scope requirements

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
Responsible for the development and delivery of the Discrete Event Simulation model and documentation, modelling the process flow from concept thru to the delivery phase to JOB1 + 90 days. The model will be developed to include, but not limited to: -
Discrete Event Simulation
- Lead the DES model generation from concept modelling to fully detailed mimic of the programme / system that meet the design scope, operating principals, performance metrics, safety, quality, delivery, cost, people and environment objectives are met.
- Lead the system optimisation, cost avoidance, best practises capturing and sharing this with relevant stakeholders
- Able to work effectively with design teams to develop and optimise solutions considering multi-attributes within defined deadlines and time constraints
- Guide the process using a product knowledge and awareness of potential design constraints to ensure due consideration is given in developing solutions
- Coordinate and lead projects and teams feedback of results as required through design / project reviews / DES Dashboards
- Lead optimisation of the DES model against different model derivative mixes and operational parameters.
- Lead the bottleneck analysis of the system and develop strategies to remove
- Lead volume throughput increase studies and system what if’s
- Guide the process to adhere to the vehicle derivative sequencing and build to sequence rules
- Support the continual development of tools and techniques which enhance capability, improve quality and robustness of DES models

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Working knowledge and experience of Discrete Event Simulation toolset
- Previous experience in using Lanner Witness or Siemens Technomatix Plant Simulation toolset
- Previous experience and background in production process flow simulation, problem solving on complex technical systems.
- Previous experience of bottleneck analysis using Discrete Event Simulation.
- Previous experience of delivering Discrete Event Simulation to programme KPIs and targets
- Experience in production sites
- Relevant degree or equivalent experience preferred
- A good communicator who can communicate complex ideas

Duties:
Vehicle and Rig Test Operations forms the backbone of our client's internal vehicle test and development capability, and is responsible for a wide and diverse range of activities including Structural and Durability Test, Body Rig Test, Road Load Data, Analytical Facilities, NVH, Climatic Test, and Safety Test.

The Facility & Technology Development team are responsible for the design and delivery of facility components, test rigs and the infrastructure required in support of the core areas delivering physical test plans. The area is also responsible for the development and delivery of key new facilities, technology, infrastructure and strategy for the wider business, project leading from concept through to delivery.

The role will see the associate lead the design and delivery of bespoke test rigs and fixtures in support of the core cycle plan across all the Engineering Labs test areas. These rigs will vary from component to system level or full vehicle testing.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
- Designing test rigs and components using the 3DX toolset (Catia V6) from concept to delivery
- Creating 2D drawings for manufacture of parts at internal workshops and external suppliers
- Liaising with customers to identify testing requirements, and ensuring test rigs are capable of the task
- Liaising with workshop fitters and supervisors
- Managing and planning workload to ensure on time delivery of test rigs
- Validating junior team members designs and technical drawings

Skills:
- Knowledge of testing methodologies relating to the testing of road vehicles.

The Opportunity:
- This exciting opportunity sits in the Electrification Services team which is responsible for designing, developing and running our EV charging solutions for customers at home and in public.
- As a Product Owner for Home Charging, you will play a key role in building and managing our Home Charging product, with responsibility for delivering implementation (including channel readiness), supplier management, and commercial management across the end-to-end proposition in multiple markets.
- The role will involve the planning and co-ordination of programme elements to drive the delivery of EV home charging and installation services solutions for our customers. This is a highly collaborative role; your skills will mean you have the ability and experience to navigate a matrix organisation, working directly with internal and external stakeholders, to drive business readiness for new home charging propositions to launch.
- The role will also require in-life product management of the services including supplier management across multiple markets, commercial analysis, pricing management, performance management & reporting, and service improvement implementation.
